Thanks to AAM, the sheep and beef industries are able to use and compare their own paddock data with government  data in a consistent and interactive way—improving their pastoral and natural resource management.

AAM, working with CRC for Spatial Information and Rangelands NRM Alliance, developed the NRM Spatial Hub. Now, rangeland farmers have access to spatial data and tools to map, plan, analyse and monitor their properties infrastructure, land resources and ground cover.

Using the NRM Spatial Hub, land owners can more easily tackle soil loss through erosion, sustainable production and native vegetation management in each of the 12 Natural Resource Management Regions across Australia. Erosion is one of the most common and costly issues facing Australian farmers, and preventing it is critical to sustainable farming practices.

The free-form steel and glass gridshell roof, a 7,080 sqm steel structure with 2,672 panes of during construction.

AAM, working hand-in-hand with  and steel design firm, is responsible for the construction survey works, monitoring of the roof structure.

AAM’s advanced structural monitoring systems continue to check the “dimensional control” of the massive steel and glass shell roof, ensuring it is being built in the right place and monitoring how much the steel frame moves as tonnes of glass panels are inserted.

For many years now, airborne LiDAR data has been used to help improve the accuracy of flood models.  However, one of the challenges associated with the use of airborne LiDAR for flood modelling is that the data at the interface between water bodies and dry ground can tend to be “noisy”.  This can result in LiDAR-derived digital elevation models (DEMs) for water bodies, such as lakes and reservoirs, not being “flat” or water in rivers appearing to flow uphill!

To overcome this problem, AAM has developed hydro-flattening processes that create LiDAR-derived DEMs in which water bodies and rivers are flat or flow downhill.

The processes allow hydrological rules to be imposed in two ways.  First, open water bodies are forced to be flat and horizontal.  Secondly, DEMs that span rivers with flowing water are forced to be “flat” from bank to bank and “sloped” at a consistent angle in the direction water is flowing.

Hydro-flattening ensures reliable and accurate DEM data for water flow analysis and flood modelling projects.

After serving the Victorian community for over 100 years, the old Police depot will now be a part of the Melbourne University Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) re-purposing project. The expansion will see the VCA campus expand into the newly re-furbished spaces.  Kane Construction will deliver new performance zones, meeting and study spaces and art studios. Originally built in 1912 as a police residence and headquarters for Victorian mounted operations, the Police depot also served as the chief residence for the rough riders who used the stables to break in new horses acquired for police use.

As heritage survey experts, AAM will be deploying the latest survey techniques to document the Police depot’s existing conditions. This means conducting dilapidation surveys, land title establishment, as-built surveys of the complex octagonal building as well as a series of surveys that will assist the architects and Kane Constructions with the design and construction of this heritage precinct.

AAM proudly received the prestigious “Geospatial Solutions Company of the Year – 2014” award at the recent “Inspire” – Geospatial World Forum held in Lisbon, Portugal.  Inspire was the first joint conference organised by the European Commission and Geospatial Media and Communications, with attendance of 2,000 delegates representing organisations from over 80 different countries around the world.

Mark Freeburn, global CEO of AAM, was honoured to receive the Geospatial Solutions Company of the Year – 2014 Award at the Inspire Awards Night and Gala Dinner.  Mr. Freeburn attributed the win to the efforts of AAM staff, saying, “Obviously this is an extraordinary event, one that makes me exceptionally proud to represent AAM. I would like to thank each and every one of the staff in AAM. It is your award, a true global recognition of your professionalism, your attention to achieving excellence and your hard work.”

AAM works on a wide range of geospatial projects all over the world including locations in India, throughout Africa, South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Island nations. AAM offers a wide range of geospatial services including enterprise GeoIT platform and services, surveying, mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

The awards at the Geospatial World Forum are conferred by an independent jury of world geospatial leaders selected by Geospatial Media and Communications. These awards recognise the achievements in the geospatial industry by both individuals and organisations for developing innovative geospatial tools and products, implementing valuable policies and applying geospatial technologies in the most resource efficient manner.

Akademiska Hus, the property developer of the Albano Campus premises in Stockholm, has commissioned COWI to take on a leading role within a range of disciplines including geo-technology in the planning of the buildings, streets and conduits.

A total of 150,000 m2 of university and higher education premises will be built in Albano, which includes 50,000 m2 for student and researcher accommodation.

The objective is to create an attractive educational and research environment that will form a hub that connects KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University. The buildings will be integrated into the surrounding park landscape, with green roofs and large green terraces.

“It’s great to be involved in developing the Albano campus, transforming the area from the rundown industrial area it is today into a vibrant educational environment with many green spaces,” says Johan Ström, project manager at COWI.
